Clos des Saumanes

Le Clos des Saumanes – Rhône Méridional
The property is composed of 60 acres of which 48 are traditional grapes variety of the Vallée du Rhône; Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault for the red wines, White Grenache, Clairette, Viognier and Roussane for the white wines. Upon the hill of Gadagne, the scarcity of vegetation leaves room for a desert of rolled galets sweeped along the Rhône and blowned by the mistral (a northern wind that blows along the vallée du Rhône).

After careers in medicine in Champagne, Martine and Robert Janer fell in love with a piece of land in Châteauneuf de Gadagne. They renovated the winery and restructures the vineyard and Clos des Saumanes was born! They focus on sustainable growing methods, producing grapes without fertilizers or pesticides. Some of the vine stocks are more than 50 years old and produce scarce but admirable grapes. Nonetheless, Martine and Robert Janer have always favour low but qualitative yields.
